Whimsical & Fun

Goodness. It's been such a hot week here in Virginia. For many of you who posted or emailed asking about the movie. . . Yes, The Dark Knight is a must see. Heath Ledger plays the Joker to perfection!
I'm still gearing up for the fall. I'm so SICK of humid conditions that I could just scream! I know that it's summer and all, but give me a break already. It's not even August yet, and that is usually the hottest. Oh well, thank the good Lord for the convenience of AC.
Just posted a new little 'diddy' of a birthday card @ Whimsical Greetings. A sweet little girl and her 'inch worm' guests. Not_enough

The Dark Knight

Any Batman fans out there? Well, here's one, for sure! In 2005 when the Batman Begins movie came out, our son insisted on seeing it. I had no desire to go because of the Batman movies of the past. Personally I thought that they were a little 'dumb'. Well, when I saw this movie, I was completely surprised. It's one of the few movies that I wished, while watching, wouldn't end. Needless to say, we will be going to see the new The Dark Knight movie today. I haven't looked forward to a new movie since the new National Treasure: Book of Secrets (which I found disappointing). This movie however is being hailed a 'must see', because of the joker character, played by the late Heath Ledger. Now I never was a DC Comic reader, couldn't afford them as a child, but I always enjoyed the Saturday morning cartoons that featured Batman and Robin, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, etc., but they always showed the Joker as this 'funny' little character that was always laughing with white paint on his face, and a painted on smile. He was more like a jester or a clown. Until recently, I never actually new that in the DC Comics, that the Joker is really a terrible person, and not at all like he appeared in the cartoons, or as Jack Nicholson, portrayed him in the Batman movie. So seeing the Joker in The Dark Knight as he was originally written, should be interesting, and hopefully entertaining. I can't wait. Our son and I are making a day of it. Seeing the movie around 12, and then heading to one of our favorite places to eat: Jason's Deli. They have the best Tomato Basil soup, and the sandwiches are unreal!
I'll let you know how the movie is.....Have a great morning...

Halloween and good friends

When I was a kid, I was always afraid of the 'monster' under the bed. I'd get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, and when I came back, I'd make a running leap and jump towards the bed when I was about five feet away from the footboard, because I didn't want what was under the bed to grab me. I knew that there really wasn't anything there, it was just the 'what if.' Remember doing that? I know I'm not the only one that used to do that. Just admit it!
Now at 41, I'm afraid of nothing, which really irritates my son, especially when he tries to scare me. It's funny how as you get older things just don't seem to bother you. I wonder why that is? I did however always enjoy Halloween, but not for the costumes, or for the witches, ghosts or goblins. We always had to make our costumes, because my parents couldn't afford to purchase the store bought costumes. I was always a hobo, raggedy-ann, or a scarecrow. One year I was even the bionic woman (remember her). For me, and I think it still holds true for children today. . .Halloween is ALL about the candy.
Halloween now, is still fun for me. Our neighborhood is always filled with a huge amount of trick or treaters, and lots of jack-o-lanterns on the front porches. One particular house goes all out and does a haunted house. He works on it for about a month, and although I've never been through it, it looks very detailed, and fun. As for myself and the neighbors on my culdesac, we all get together and have a huge cookout. Complete with hot dogs, pork BBQ, deviled eggs, potato salad, yummy desserts, hot apple cider, hot chocolate, and great conversation. We've been here for about 3 years now, and I always look forward to it. Not because it's Halloween, but for the simple fact that it's a time that all the neighbors are able to get together, eat, talk and just relax.
I said all of that, to say this. Halloween doesn't always have to be scary. It can be fun when used to meet with friends and neighbors to just sit back and relax and enjoy the time together. That's how I see Halloween. . .as being fun. And I like to make my Halloween graphics fun too.
Here is just another of the graphics that I have created to show you the 'cute' side of Halloween.

Goblins aren't scary. Sometimes they're just a little bashful.
